"For some reason, horses, animals, they just really win people over. I think horses are good for the soul." (A famous thoroughbred horse trainer)
Since 2007, I have been writing and publishing content under the handle "onehorsestable". My published work has been on emerging U.S. Cities, entrepreneurship, content for coaches of all sports, and many articles in the world of thoroughbred horse racing.
In the summer of 2004, a buy-one-get-one-free coupon brought my wife and I to the races. We didn't have fathers or aunts or uncles who read the Daily Racing Form and took us to the races. We were newlyweds who had just moved to the Twin Cities area. Kari and I took our coupon and spent a summer Saturday at Canterbury Park in Shakopee, Minnesota. A horseplayer was born that day. We eventually returned and attended a "New To The Races Seminar" hosted by Jeff Maday of Canterbury Park. We fell in love with a young turf horse named Chetten County, sired by a young stallion named Giant's Causeway. We followed Chetten County and won on this horse until she moved on to the turf at Arlington Park. Ever since that summer, Canterbury Park has been our favorite part of living in the Twin Cities.
My horse racing adventures have taken me to the Keeneland September yearling sales, several stallion farms, Old Friends in New York and Kentucky, Indiana Grand, Hoosier Park, Presque Isle Downs, Saratoga Harness, The Red Mile, Prairie Meadows, Arlington Park, and Running Aces. As a horseplayer, I followed Arlington Park religiously through the years. The highlight of my horse racing resume would include a guest on-air appearance for Prairie Meadows, meeting Bill Downes and watching him call a race at Indiana Grand, and two weeks spent watching the summer meet at Saratoga. Favorite Movie: Seabiscuit. Favorite Book: Seabiscuit. Favorite Horse: Monarchos. Favorite Places: Lexington, Kentucky and Saratoga Race Track.
